Don’t make these pool cleaning mistakes
- You don’t check the pool chemistry often enough. Ask us how often you should test the pool chemistry. The frequency will depend on many factors, but you will want to check it at least weekly.
- Adding chlorine or your pool chemicals during the daytime. When you add chemicals during the heat of the day the chemicals will burn off more quickly, and you also won’t be able to use your pool while the chemicals are circulating. Add chemicals when you’re done using the pool for the day and when the sun goes down.
- Slacking on brushing the pool walls, floors and deck tiles between service visits. Brushing the tiles will keep algae from taking hold on your pool and should be done between service visits. Ask your pool contractor how frequently you should do this. Also, if you have a pool cover, you may not have to brush the pool between service visits.
- Skimping on the hours the pool pump runs. Ask us how long the pool pump should run as it varies for every pool based on size of the pool, size of the pump and amount of water in the pool. You should plan on running the pool pump for at least eight hours per day. You are running it to completely turn the water over at least daily.
- Not being diligent in the use of a swimming pool cover. If you use a pool cover regularly you will prevent dirt and debris from getting into the water. You will also slow the rate of water evaporation and using a cover will keep heated water trapped in and that can save you money on operating costs.
