Whether you live in the northern or the southern part of the country, or anywhere in between you may want want to heat your pool but wonder how to heat your swimming pool. The pool contractors from Tipton Pools in Knoxville, TN explain you can extend your family’s swim season through the addition of a pool heater.
How to heat your swimming pool
A gas-fired pool heater that uses either propane or natural gas is an efficient way to heat the pool water. Heat pumps and solar powered heaters are also ways to heat the pool water. Gas, however, is the quickest way to warm the water. If you invest in a high efficiency gas pool heater you can conserve money and operate at close to a 90% efficiency.
If you have access to natural gas or propane, it may be the ideal choice for you. The way a gas pool heater works is that the heater pump circulates water from the pool, into the heater and is then pushed back into the pool. The pool heater itself has a combustion chamber that houses copper tubes and that warms the water as it moves through.
When running a heater, the water is continually circulated and re-circulated through the water and the heater meaning you will have a continuous supply of warmed water.
Prior to investing in a swimming pool heater, you will want to talk with your swimming pool contractor to make certain you choose the size heater that is best suited for your pool. Buying one that is too large for the volume of water in your pool is not efficient. Buying one that is too small means the water won’t get as warm as you might like and is also inefficient.
Knowing the size and style and water volume of your swimming pool will help you keep your pool water warm and swimmable and extend your pool season. If you are going to choose the pool heater on your own, here is a formula to determine the size of the heater you will need. Take the square footage of the pool area X the temperature rise X 12. This will give you the BTU per hour of output requirement for your heating needs.
