Tipton Pool contractors in Knoxville, Tennessee work with their customers to make certain the swimming pool and hot tub are clean, the water free of bacteria and that everything is working at its peak to allow for the hosting of a swimming pool party. If you’re new to pool ownership you may be wondering how to host a July 4 pool party. There are many ways to enhance your typical family holiday gathering when you own a swimming pool. Do make sure you’ve scheduled a pre-party pool cleaning and a post-party pool cleaning. If you’re going to have more people than usual in the water, it will throw the chemicals out of balance and it’s a good idea to have the pool cleaned and the water tested and balanced following the party.

How to host a July 4 pool party

You may have been using your pool for several weeks, or longer, by now but July 4 is one of the highlights of the summer season and for swimming pool parties. July 4th is a time to enjoy the good weather, good friends and patriotism. Many poolside parties and picnics include barbecued foods, burgers, corn on the cob, your favorite music, delicious desserts and more. Here is how to throw a party to remember this year.

  • What kind of music will you play? What kind of music do you enjoy? Why not ask your guests what kind of music they enjoy and you can make a soundtrack of various tunes sure to please.
  • The pool will be the main attraction so make sure it’s cleaned and serviced prior to the party.
  • Pick up pool games the kids and adults will enjoy. Have rafts and other floatables on hand for those guests who simply want to relax and lounge in the pool – that is, until they get soaked from the guests playing games!
  • Plan for out of the pool fun as well. Croquet is fun, bocce ball, too. Badminton or volleyball is fun for those guests who don’t want to play in the pool.
  • Grab a kiddie pool or two and fill one with sand and one with water for the youngsters who don’t want to go into the big pool. If you have an extra kiddie pool, the dogs could use it or you could use one to hold ice and your beverages.
  • Stock up on dollar store flip flops. Have extra towels on hand. Don’t forget sunscreen, sunblock and even lip balm to protect everyone at the party. No one wants to have a sunburn as a memory of the party.
  • Take photos of your guests and hang them or place them around the outdoor living space. Make your own photo booth with summer fun props. Have a printer ready so guests can choose a photo memory to take home with them.
  • Decorate for the party. You can decorate in traditional Fourth of July decor —  red, white and blue, and why not! Hang streamers. Blow up red, white and blue balloons. Buy colored candles for light when the sun goes down. Pick up terra cotta planters and paint them in patriotic designs, fill them with beautiful flowers, party decorations and offer the table decorations as “parting gifts” to your guests.
  • As always, safety first. When the pool is being used you need to appoint an  adult to watch out for everyone. Depending on how many people are in the pool, you may need more than one person whose only task is to monitor the safety of those in the pool. Have life vests on hand or ask guests to bring life vests for their little ones and insist they are work as an additional measure of safety.
  • If you’re serving alcoholic beverages you may want to appoint a designated driver to take those guests home who shouldn’t be behind the wheel. If you want to extend the pool fun, invite everyone to spend the night. Set up tents in the backyard and let the party continue until the wee hours. In the morning, serve breakfast before you send everyone on their way.
  • Plan the menu and if you have a few friends who offer to bring a dish to pass, let them know what’s on the menu and add their contribution to the list.

Above all, have fun and enjoy time with friends and family! Here’s to a happy summer!
