Tipton Pool Builders offer money saving pool tips

Tipton Pools, serving pool owners in Knoxville, Tennessee understand that pool owners are looking for ways to save money while still getting as much enjoyment from the family swimming pool as possible. There are ways to help save money that won’t mean you need to stop swimming or having pool parties. How? Look to your swimming pool pump for some answers — and for keeping more money in your pocket! Remember that the pool pump is the heart of the pool’s operational center; it circulates  water keeping it filtered and sanitized.

Here are three ways that the proper pump can save money on your pool and its operating costs:Swimming pool with diving board and reflections

  1. You need to understand the “turnover rate” for swimming pool. Turnover rate is “the time required to circulate the entire volume of the water in the swimming pool — one complete cycle.” The pool pump needs to run long enough to ensure the water is completely turned over. In many cases, swimming pool pumps run longer than necessary meaning it consumes more energy than necessary and that leads to increased electric bills. Talk with us to make certain you have the correct size pump for the job and that the water is being turned over properly.
  2. A multi-speed, or variable speed pump, is more energy efficient than a single speed pump. The reason for this is that with a single speed pump, there is no option for the pump to operate at a higher or lower level when the demand calls for it. A variable speed pump operates at the level needed for the task. Vacuuming the pool means you will need the pump to operate at a higher level, while merely circulating the water means the pump can operate at a lower level and consume less energy.
  3. Schedule your pump to run at off-peak hours. When there is a lower drain on the electric grid, your costs are also lower. Contact your utility provider and ask when the off peak hours are. Install a remote control device that will turn your pump on and have it run during off peak hours.
