Practice proper pool safety, Tipton Pool Builders offer tips
Swimming pool owners know that swimming pool safety should always be front of mind. To make sure they practice proper pool safety, they work with their swimming pool contractor in Knoxville, Tennessee to assure their pool is as safe as it can be.
The USA Swimming Foundation reports that more than “200 children between the ages of one and 14 drowned in a swimming pool.” That is a frightening statistic, but in most cases the accidents are completely preventable.
Practice proper pool safety
Ask yourself: is your pool as safe as it can be? Here are steps to take to make it as safe as possible:
- Have a fence that is self closing and self latching. Follow the proper protocol for fence height.
- Use a pool safety cover when the pool isn’t in use.
- Use pool alarms as a back up to the fence and safety cover.
- If you purchased a home with an existing pool have your pool contractor inspect it to make certain the pool drain covers are Virginia Graeme Baker compliant.
- If the pool has a shallow end and a deep end, have visible water depth markers.
- Teach your children to swim.
- Never swim alone.
- Learn CPR.
- Always have someone responsible to supervise the swimmers.
- Keep pool safety equipment poolside. Even if your children can swim, it may be wise to have them wear a life vest until they are completely comfortable in the water. Water wings are not safety devices.
- Have a phone poolside — for emergency use — not for playing games, texting or chatting while people are swimming.
- Practice safety when you’re using the diving board or slide.
