The construction of an inground swimming pool for your family is one that, if not researched properly, can be fraught with stress. If, however you work with the swimming pool contractors from Tipton Pools in Knoxville, Tennessee they will explain the process from start to finish and you will understand what to expect every step of the way. The process we are about to explain is one that occurs once you have made your decisions on the pool of your dreams and have chosen the size, style, construction material and accessories.
Here is what to expect during your pool construction project:
- The design and engineering phase is when you are working with your pool contractor to determine is when you will understand what the pool project will cost and how long it will take. At this point, and after the contract has been signed, your pool contractor will have begun the initial phase of securing permits for the project and will kick off construction.
- The most exciting part of the construction process is when the layout and excavation begins. Your contractor will mark off and lay out the area and will bring in the heavy equipment to begin dirt removal. He will stake the perimeter of the pool. This process can take one to two days — weather permitting.
- After the hole has been excavated, it is time for your contractor to add in the plumbing and electrical for the pool. Trenches will be dug in the excavated area to accommodate the electrical and plumbing and then an electrician will take over. This can take anywhere from three to four days to complete.
- The steel rebar will be added to the excavated hole and this is what will form the shape of your swimming pool. The contractor that lays the rebar will use wire placed in a grid pattern to rough in the shape. Once that’s done…
- The concrete or gunite will be applied to the rebar and the steel grid pattern. This will form the shell of your swimming pool. The concrete will be applied with a hose and it will look close to finished once this process has been complete. During this time, any sun shelves, or benches will be installed. At this time and for the next week to ten days you will become involved in the pool construction because you will need to hose the shell down at least two times per day to help cure the concrete.
- Waterline line, rocks and boulders will be installed after the concrete has cured. Adding tile provides a smooth surface between the pool deck and the waterline. Rocks and boulders will be added if you’ve chosen to have your swimming pool have a “natural” look. This is also the time when water features such as fountains would be added.
- After the tile is installed your pool contractor will begin constructing the pool deck. Many times, pool owners won’t opt for a pool deck in the beginning of the process as a way to save money, but many of them realize how much a deck enhances the fun around the pool. Talk with your pool contractor so you can understand the nuances of a deck for your swimming pool.
- This is now the time when the pool contractor will install the equipment for the pool and hook it up to the plumbing and electrical wiring. The filter, pumps, heater and other accessories will be plumbed and wired.
- Following this, the pool plaster will be applied. Plaster comes in myriad colors and textures and adds an overall “finished” feel to the pool as well as waterproofing the surfaces. After the finish/plaster has been applied the pool will be filled with water. This process can take between two to three days.
- Yard clean up and the filling of the pool and testing of all the equipment begins. Before your pool contractor leaves your yard will be back to its normal look, except you will be waiting for the grass to grow and any other landscaping options to be completed. The length of time it takes to fill a pool is predicated on whether you will be having water trucked in or of you will be filing it via a hose.
- After the pool has been filled, your contractor will add chemicals and let them filter throughout before you can use the pool. This may take a few days, so be patient!
- Once all is said and done you will have a swimming pool in your backyard that will be a place where you and your family can spend numerous hours together building family memories that will last a lifetime.
