The swimming pool may be closed but that is usually the time of year when the hot tub use, um, heats up! The swimming pool and hot tub contractors from Tipton Pools in Knoxville, Tennessee offer three ways to enjoy your hot tub this winter.

As a hot tub owner, or if you’re considering getting a hot tub this season, soaking in one is more luxurious than you can imagine! Also, a soak in the hot tub in the cold days of winter will take the chill out of your bones, warm you up and even alleviate arthritis and other joint issues.

Three Ways To Enjoy Your Hot Tub This Winter

Even though you may not use your hot tub or spa as often as you use your swimming pool you still need to assure it’s disinfected. The heat of the hot tub water leads to bacteria growth and your pool contractor can help with that cleanup and maintenance.

  • If the hot tub or spa is covered you need to make certain you clear off any standing water or debris before you remove the cover. You don’t want that water or debris falling into the water and upsetting the chemistry. If the hot tub cover has ice on it, gently remove the ice and snow before removing the cover.
  • Stay warm when you get out of the hot tub. Consider investing in a towel heater or if you have a family member who isn’t in the hot tub, ask them to toss your robe and towels into the dryer so they are warm when you get out! You don’t want to get out of the hot tub water and freeze! Make sure you thoroughly clear a path to and from the hot tub or wear your boots to keep your feet warm and dry.
  • Don’t turn the heat on the hot water temperature down too low or up too high. The water temp should never be higher than 104 degrees — it’s not safer over that temperature. When you’re in the heated water your body doesn’t sweat and can’t regulate its temperature and that can be unhealthy. You could even suffer heatstroke if you’re in the water for too long. Don’t turn the water temperature down too low or it will take longer to heat up to a temperature that is comfortable for soaking. It is sometimes more cost-effective to keep the water at a level temperature than it is to raise and lower it frequently.
