Tipton Pool contractors, serving Knoxville, TN answer the “will a pool increase the value of my home?” question

Many times we get asked that question and the short answer to whether a pool will increase your home’s value is… maybe. There are many reasons why a pool might, or might not, increase the value of your home and this is something you may want to take into consideration when you decide to become a pool owner. You will also need to think about whether pools are the norm in your neighborhood because if a potential buyer for your home sees a pool, but does not want a pool, it could be a detriment rather than a selling point.

If, however, you and your family are determined to own a swimming pool — and they are ideal staycation spots and a great place to spend time with friends and family. Here are items to consider on whether a pool will add to the resale value of your home:pool project

  1. What is the condition of your pool? If it’s been well-taken care of and is aesthetically pleasing and the pool equipment is in top operational condition, then this may add to the resale value and desirability of your home. If your pool is old and poorly maintained and if the equipment is in need of replacement, the new owner will be faced with that expense and that will not help you for its resale.
  2. If you live in a warm weather state — like Tennessee — a pool may be a more prized possession than if you live in the colder climates of New York, for example.
  3. Do the neighbors have pools? If many of your neighbors have swimming pools, then your having one will keep you on par with those other houses. If you don’t have a pool and every other neighbor does, your home may be considered as “lacking” because “everyone else has a pool!”

When it comes right down to it, don’t invest in a swimming pool based on some magical higher resale value number for your home. Invest in a swimming pool because it is something you and your family have dreamed of and because you know it is something you will use and enjoy. Live for the now, not for the potential resale in the future.
