Knoxville, Tennessee pool contractors offer money saving pool heating tips
Owning a swimming pool is not an inexpensive undertaking and if you want to heat your pool water you are adding an additional layer of cost. There are many reasons to heat swimming pool water and they include the ability to extend your swim season — both on the front and the back end of the typical pool season and to make night swimming more comfortable. Heating the water will extend the pool season, but it will also consume energy and add to heating bills.
Tipton Pool Builders in Tennessee explain there are many ways to reduce the cost of heating pool water including:
- Using an energy-efficient pool model; this may sometimes require you to update your existing pool equipment
- Use a pool cover to help trap the heated water
- Choose a pool temperature that is comfortable
- Choose a smaller heat pump
- Make certain the heater is turned off when you’re not using the swimming pool
There are three types of pool heaters from which to choose:
- A gas heater. These are popular and efficient. Gas heaters heat the water quickly and are efficient with short periods of use.
- Heat pumps don’t generate heat, they use electricity and ambient air temperatures to move heat from one place to another. Heat pumps need to have an ambient temperature of at least 50 degrees to operate effectively. The cooler it is out of doors the more energy the heat pump will have to expend to heat the water.
- A solar heat pump is one of the most energy efficient choices and make sense in areas that are blessed with sunshine. Solar systems have black tubes that absorb the sun; water is sent into the solar panels, absorb the heat and then is pumped back into the swimming pool.
